Experience
I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have been tutoring for 18+ years and my students range from elementary aged children all the way up to adults. Learning has no age limit. The subjects I tutor include K-8 Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as, High School and College World History, European History, United States History, and Essay Writing.
Personal Touch
Throughout my education, I found that teachers really made all the difference in whether or not the subjects were engaging. Even my least favorite subject could turn into my favorite class just because of the teacher. These same teachers would go the extra mile to answer my questions and take time out of their lunch or stay after school to help me one-on-one. This extra effort and care not only enhanced my understanding of the material, but also increased my confidence when it came to academics.
My Tutoring Philosophy
I try to bring these experiences to my tutoring approach so that students don't feel shame or embarrassment in asking for help. I do everything I can to make learning an enjoyable experience. These sessions consisted of going over any questions or concerns they had about the lessons they learned in class, editing and proofreading essays, or going over how to efficiently extract the meaning of a document from historical or academic sources. If a student ends up needing more help, and I am able, I have no problem extending the session or scheduling another appointment on a following day. Furthermore, I have lesson plans on-hand to introduce the topics in a fun and creative way, but I also allow my students to come into a lesson with their own questions or concerns that we can work through
